Elementary
(Grades 1 - 6)

In our Elementary level programs, students are empowered to take ownership of their education, and pursue their interests and passions within a well-structured curriculum encompassing a variety of subjects.

Montessori-trained teachers guide students through individual and group projects, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and a deep understanding of complex concepts.

Our Elementary program is divided into two sections. Grades 1-3 are in our Lower Elementary program, while grades 4-6 are in Upper Elementary.

Middle School (Grades 7 - 8)

Our middle school program extends the Montessori philosophy into the formative years of adolescence. Students engage with a challenging and diverse curriculum that encompasses academic subjects, as well as real-world applications and community involvement.

Montessori-trained educators guide and support students to develop independence, leadership skills, and a deep sense of social and environmental responsibility. The goal is to achieve academic excellence in preparation for high school and college, while ensuring a well-rounded and purposeful life beyond the classroom.

Art

In addition to providing a vehicle for creative expression, the Art program provides enrichment to an already stimulating curriculum. By examining the works of many fine artists, as well as the art of many cultures, the child can become witness to the unique way that people have recorded their vision of the world and wonders of nature.

Art in the Elementary and Middle School programs takes a theme-based approach to organize, fully explore, and incorporate all media. It uses the works of famous artists to explore the use of themes and the many different ways they can be expressed. Media include pencil, clay, tempura, pastel, oil, acrylics, water color, and fiber. Students work individually and in groups to learn methods and elements of design.

Physical Education

The VMS Physical Education program is intended to motivate students to be excited about movement and encourage students to make physical fitness a life- long activity.

For toddler and primary aged students, activities are chosen and presented in the form of stations for students to choose and practice in a safe and supportive environment. Students in grades 1 through 8 have P.E. once to twice a week. Each class incorporates fitness, sports fundamentals, and strength conditioning components.

VMS has a variety of equipment to keep our programs intriguing and fun for our students including an indoor rock wall, scooter boards and ramp, balance beams, turtle racers, and incline mat.

Music

The music program is an exciting and fun curriculum based on the Orff-Schulwerk process of teaching and learning.

Orff-Schulwerk is a general, group-oriented musicality where the individual can explore, create, compose and enjoy all elements of music. Through singing, movement, speaking, body sound rhythms, playing simple melody instruments and percussion instruments with music scores and improvisation, children learn the love and joys of music.

Music programs are provided for all the children at VMS.

Spanish

The Spanish program is an important part of our academic picture. We begin introducing Spanish to Primary students, and as the children progress through the grades, the complexity and intensity of the instruction increases. By Middle School, students attend Spanish four times a week and develop a greater understanding of the Spanish language.

The Spanish program strives to follow the student’s sense of curiosity by creating an environment that allows the student to work independently. At the end of the student’s middle school year she/he is prepared to transition into High School and into a second language.

Toddler (10 Mos - 3 Years)
